Florence Duomo Rules & Regulations

Modesty is mandatory when visiting the sacred spaces of the Duomo complex. For entry into the Cathedral and Baptistery, both shoulders and knees must be fully covered—no sleeveless tops, shorts, or skirts above the knee are allowed. Visitors must also remove hats, sunglasses, and avoid flip-flops or sandals, adhering to a respectful style of dress throughout their visit.

To protect the monuments and ensure a comfortable visit, large or bulky bags are not permitted inside the Cathedral. A cloakroom facility is available inside the Museum for secure storage of such items. Additionally, there are private luggage storage services near the Duomo for convenience.

Photography without flash is generally permitted in most areas of the Duomo complex, allowing visitors to capture its beauty while protecting delicate artworks from light damage. However, tripods, selfie sticks, and professional lighting equipment are strictly prohibited. In certain sacred spaces or temporary exhibitions, photography may be entirely restricted, remember to always follow staff instructions and posted signage.

For safety and conservation reasons, sharp objects, weapons, glass containers, aerosols, and any potentially hazardous materials are strictly forbidden inside the monuments. Food and drink, loudspeakers, and musical instruments are also not allowed, ensuring a quiet and respectful environment for all visitors. Bag checks are carried out at entrances, and prohibited items will need to be left outside or disposed of before entry.
